As I sit here on the coast of Guerrero looking out at the ocean rolling in over the sand mottled from last nights rain and the crisp air blows through the palms I am reminded once again why this journey began.
It’s easy to disregard the calls of subconscious, conscious, or natural yearnings for a connection to source when we are embalmed in the vibrations of a life fueled by caffeine and currency even when we have lived prior in harmony with the natural world, but if you have touched that life where all that matters is LIFE a gentle wind can blow you back to center.
The past few years I have been in search for an answer to why this type of living is only achieved in what most people consider rural, poor, or underdeveloped areas of the world, the answer I already knew presented itself time and time again but I refused to accept it as reality, most likely because I had become enveloped once again in the comforts of modernity. When the only thing you have to focus on is survival in the natural world the woes of privilege cannot occupy your mind. The focus becomes care for community, not as a grandstand for acceptance or praise, but because you become community, community relies on you and you rely on community to survive.
All of the excuses we make in the “civilized” world for our selfish behavior, all the destruction we allow for the promise of comfort, all the things we “need” to exist are nothing more than cracks through which seep the love and energy that truly feed the soul. When you tune into these cues your eyes can open to new light, an interaction can last a lifetime if approached with intention, an opportunity to learn and share knowledge, an opportunity to share and show love. I don’t use these words lightly, we are beings of love, we are beings of mutual aid, we evolved as such and to continue to evolve must accept our true reality, we must accept we all come from the same maker (mother nature) and that without each other we cannot exist.
My hope for the future is to never lose sight of this meaning, to set forth again on a journey to seek truth and build community, learn, share, love, evolve, and never settle for injustice or allow it to pass if I have the ability to raise my fist in opposition.
